The Cypriot government assumed control of Larnaca Port at midnight on Tuesday, following the termination of a 1.2 billion euro investment deal with Kition Ocean Holdings.
The Deputy Government Spokesman, Yiannis Antoniou, said the transition was smooth, with the Cyprus Port Authority (CPA) now overseeing gate operations, the port perimeter, and ship management.
Earlier on Tuesday, Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Nakis Antoniou met with CPA President Zenonas Apostolou. CCCI received assurances of a seamless handover and confirmed ongoing ship operations without disruptions.
“We have seen for ourselves that the port is functioning normally. At the moment, two ships are being serviced and they are preparing for the Amalthea programme,” Antoniou stressed.
The government has secured private equipment to prevent any delays during the transition.
According to philenews, the future management of the Larnaca marina remains unclear, although there are indications it may be placed under the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
