The gender pay gap in Cyprus remains at approximately 10%, Commissioner for Gender Equality Josie Christodoulou said Thursday at an awards ceremony for organisations certified by the National Certification Body for implementing good gender equality practices in the workplace.
“Gender discrimination persists in the workplace, and stereotypes continue to categorise professions as ‘male-dominated’ or ‘female-dominated’, with the former commanding higher wages”, Christodoulou said.
The commissioner emphasized that more progress is needed at various levels to achieve equal status, pay parity, and workplace equality between women and men.
Gender equality is a cross-cutting policy of the Christodoulides government, she noted, adding that gender perspective must be integrated into labour policies.
Christodoulou said her office is coordinating the National Strategy for Gender Equality 2024-2026 in collaboration with all ministries, deputy ministries, and other bodies, including the National Mechanism for Women’s Rights and civil society organisations.
The strategy implements targeted policies through various actions and the development of practical tools.
