The government’s new package of measures to combat rising costs of living will be ready next month, Finance Minister Makis Keravnos has announced.
Following a meeting with leaders and economic teams of coalition parties, Keravnos stated that the measures must be targeted, sustainable, and provide relief to those in need, particularly vulnerable groups and the middle class generally.
The minister indicated that announcements are expected next month.
When questioned about plans following the termination of electricity price subsidies at the end of October, he said the matter was under consideration and decisions would be made before Christmas.
“The government is continuously concerned about inflation and all issues affecting our society. We are constantly evaluating the data”, he emphasised.
The Minister added that whilst the government has already announced numerous measures, it is studying additional initiatives to provide relief to vulnerable population groups.
“We had a constructive and productive meeting with the parties supporting the government. We heard very well-structured, costed proposals that will help us shape our own views for announcing certain measures when we are ready”, he said.
When asked about the cost of the parties’ proposals, the minister said he could not discuss specific amounts, as the final package of measures must first be drafted and discussed in the Council of Ministers.
