New bill set to increase vehicle MOT test fees by eight euros

Relevant News

Cyprus will increase vehicle MOT test fees by eight euros following legislation submitted to parliament by the Transport Ministry.

The bill amends the Motor Vehicles Technical Inspection and Technical Inspection Centres Laws of 2007 to 2024, raising fees for technical vehicle inspections.

Private Technical Inspection Centres will charge €43 for M1 category vehicles and N1 category vehicles, up from €35. M1 vehicles include passenger cars with up to eight seats excluding the driver, whilst N1 vehicles comprise commercial vehicles with a gross weight up to 3,500 kilograms.

Public Technical Inspection Centres will charge €46 for the same vehicle categories, increased from €40.

Ministry cites rising costs

The Transport Ministry said the increase was necessary due to administrative costs borne by the Republic of Cyprus and rising operational expenses for conducting inspections.

The ministry also cited sustainability requirements for private inspection centres.

The Technical Committee for Setting and Reviewing Fees and Rights has approved the legislative adjustment.

The fee increases affect the most common vehicle categories requiring regular technical inspections under Cyprus law.
