The Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) will begin implementing rolling power cuts across the island today as electricity demand has exceeded production capacity, according to reliable sources.
Philenews has learned that efforts to prevent this development have ultimately failed, with officials describing the decision as “unavoidable” given the current shortage.
The power cuts will rotate every 30 minutes across different areas and consumer groups, sources confirmed.
Authorities will attempt to exempt mountainous regions from the cuts for obvious reasons related to the colder temperatures at higher elevations.
The situation has worsened today for both the Transmission System Operator and the EAC as there is effectively no electricity generation from wind farms, which had provided crucial support during previous days of the power crisis.
