Ambitious plans for tourism upgrade in Chrysochou and Tylliria areas unveiled

A long-awaited project to develop sustainable tourism in the remote districts of Chrysochou and Tylliria is finally getting underway after pandemic delays.

The initiative was launched in 2022 by then-Deputy Minister Savvas Perdios and aims to go beyond traditional tourism models, fostering a thriving local community alongside a responsible visitor experience.

With a 2030 completion target, the project integrates with the national tourism strategy and outlines a three-year action plan.

The strategy prioritises two key objectives: retaining and attracting residents and nurturing local entrepreneurship.

To achieve the first, planners propose exploring housing schemes tailored to local needs and improving essential services like healthcare, education, and sports facilities.

Boosting entrepreneurship involves training programmes for residents, social media education for tourism businesses, and the creation of craft centres where artisans can showcase their skills through visitor workshops.

Building a sustainable identity

The project delves into establishing a distinct tourism identity for the wider Polis Chrysochous and Tylliria region.

A three-phase approach encompasses reviewing the current landscape, developing identity recommendations, and creating an action plan.

Encompassing 37 communities across Paphos and Nicosia, the project aligns with national strategies and local development plans. Officials believe the “Capabilities Strategy” leverages the region’s unique strengths to ensure sustainable growth and a competitive edge.

Untouched beauty, authentic experiences

The vision centres on creating a sustainable tourism identity that promotes Chrysochou and Tylliria as an authentic year-round destination.

Highlighting the area’s natural beauty – valleys, caves, beaches, and crystal-clear waters – the plan emphasises a focus on special interest tourism. Visitors can explore a landscape steeped in myths and legends, adding a layer of cultural richness to the experience.

Investing in infrastructure and promotion

The Deputy Ministry recognizes Chrysochou and Tylliria’s unique offerings, aiming to enhance the aesthetics and infrastructure of the region.

This includes improving accessibility for locals and visitors, implementing sustainable waste management practices, and investing in digital tourism initiatives.

Upgrading existing hotels, increasing bed capacity, and promoting responsible travel practices are also priorities.

Branding and marketing play a crucial role, capitalising on the growing tourist demand for sustainability and authentic experiences.
