None of us is without sin

Prisons are, without question, loaded with problems. One union keeps shouting about violence in prisons, drugs, rapes. But hold on, the management carries its share of the blame too, and so does the ministry responsible, which needs to sort these problems out. But the staff whose actual job is keeping order and security, what are they doing?

Isn’t it their job to stop drugs and mobile phones getting into prisons in the first place? Isn’t it their job to stop inmates being killed, raped, stabbed? And we haven’t heard a peep from any union about what the Audit Office’s report lays bare on sick leave and the abuse of it that’s clearly going on.

To fix a problem, everyone has to step up and take institutional responsibility. Every single one of them, the ministry, the management, and the staff, has to do their job properly. That’s the only way any of this gets solved.
