Did anyone deny the Holocaust, Mr Anolik?

The Israeli ambassador’s urgent written statement was preceded by declarations from Cypriot politicians about “antisemitic rhetoric” in our country. Out came Oren Anolik to have his say—essentially repeating what Israel, politicians and intellectuals of “the narrative” have been saying for decades. He discovered—in little Cyprus—”the emergence of untypical antisemitic rhetoric in public discourse”. Presumably triggered by AKEL’s Congress and what was heard there about Palestine and Israeli investors transforming Limassol, Larnaca and Karpasia.

In any case, Oren Anolik and the rest are attempting to impose the narrative of supposed antisemitism, as if anyone who agonises over the bleeding Palestine wants the disappearance of Jews. Here in Cyprus, we’ve heard similar accusations many times—the Israeli ambassador should know this. They accuse us of “nationalism” and “anti-Turkish sentiment” because we want freedom for our homeland.

Isn’t it the same? It’s exactly the same: a campaign of tarring everyone with the same brush and mudslinging against those who cannot bear the unfolding genocide against the Palestinian people. Let the ambassador prattle on about supposed Cyprus-Israel friendship. Like all oppressors, they don’t want partners and friends, they want slaves and messengers for their narratives whilst they slaughter civilians.
