Larnaca District Court has remanded for eight days a 32-year-old man arrested over more than a kilo of cocaine in Mazotos, whom police believe to be a member of a criminal network trafficking large quantities of the drug in Larnaca district.

Police are trying to identify the network’s other members and the supplier of the cocaine. The man was not previously known to police.

His assets will also be investigated, Phileleftheros understands. He is refusing to cooperate with police, who are examining four mobile phones found in his possession.

Officers from the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime (DAOE), the Anti-Drugs Unit (YKAN) and the Sub-Directorate of Intelligence and Special Operations (YPEE) put the man under surveillance after receiving specific information. They stopped his car in a rural part of Mazotos at about 5pm on Monday.

Searches of the car, his home and two open areas where officers had earlier seen him turned up more than a kilo of cocaine in total. This included 826 grams in a plastic container carefully hidden in the ground near his home.

Officers also found about six grams of cannabis, a small amount of cannabis resin, precision scales, a grinder, 16 firecrackers, and 21,100 euros in cash believed to come from illegal activity.
