Former Democratic Rally (DISY) leader Averof Neofytou will officially announce in the coming days that he is seeking the party’s nomination for the presidential elections, Phileleftheros understands.
On Tuesday, Neofytou posted a picture of himself in front of a camera on social media, with the caption “A very important day”.
Nominations will be formally submitted on Monday, October 26, and the party’s electoral congress will be held on November 28. Barring any surprises, the contest will be between Neofytou and Giorgos Pamborides.
Neofytou had avoided stating his intentions for about a month. Last Friday, he told journalists he would speak about the presidential elections and the party’s internal procedures this week. Phileleftheros understands that he had already made his decision, and only the formal announcement was outstanding.
