President Nikos Christodoulides said on Tuesday he hoped his meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman would produce positive results on the three areas set out by the UN Secretary-General: substance, methodology and confidence-building measures.

Speaking to reporters as he left the Presidential Palace for the meeting, Christodoulides said his side was going in “with clear political will and a positive attitude to achieve results”.

He said positive news was needed on the Cyprus problem and that he sincerely hoped there would be some.

Alongside the meeting in Nicosia, an important European Union initiative is under way, he said, and he hoped for positive news from that too. Positive news was certainly needed on both fronts, he added.
