Thousands of fake goods and electrical appliances that failed to meet EU standards were confiscated by the Customs Department between June and September this year, according to the latest statistics on the import, storage and transport of products.
The department also fined a number of companies and individuals for overcharging to the tune of hundreds of thousands of euro.
It mostly involved newly formed firms which attempted to illegally import fake goods from China through Greece and briefly to Cyprus, with the purpose or reintroducing them to the European market again, without paying VAT.
The fakes included 13788 Calvin Kleins in violation of the brand bame, as well as electronic appliances that did not comply with the CE standards, including car monitors, MP3s, radios, power banks and chargers.

In addition to overcharging, tax import irregularities were also discovered, with companies paying a total of 40 thousand euro in out of court settlements.
