A National Guard soldier who suffered a cardiac arrest on Thursday remains intubated and in a stable condition, with the first 48 hours seen as critical before he undergoes further specialised tests, Phileleftheros understands.

The tests, due once the first 48 hours have passed, will allow his doctors at the Apollonion Private Hospital to assess his condition more fully.

The swift intervention of National Guard personnel and the first aid they gave proved particularly important, according to the latest update.

The soldier felt suddenly unwell on Thursday morning while cleaning near a guard post in the Faneromeni area and lost consciousness. National Guard personnel noticed immediately and gave him first aid before he was taken by ambulance to the Apollonion, where he was found to have suffered a cardiac arrest.
