A 46-year-old man was remanded in custody for three days on Wednesday on suspicion of repeatedly threatening to kill his former partner and allegedly punching her in the head, after she told police she feared for her life.

Limassol District Court granted a request by Limassol CID investigators to hold him to help their inquiries. The offences being investigated include written threats to kill, assault causing grievous bodily harm, threats, unlawful entry, harassment and psychological violence.

According to the complaint filed with Limassol CID’s domestic violence unit, the man allegedly would not accept their separation and had repeatedly harassed the woman in recent months, causing her great distress and fear.

In one of the incidents she described, allegedly in late September, she received threatening messages from him while she was on a night out. When she got home, she found him there. She alleges that he began verbally abusing her and threatened to kill her, then attacked her, pulling her by the hair and punching her in the back of the head. According to the complaint, she fell to the ground, felt dizzy and suffered visible injuries to various parts of her body.

She also reported an earlier incident, allegedly about two months before, in which she said he had also threatened to kill her. She told police she now fears his threats will be carried out.
