Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has invited Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman to the COP 31 summit in Antalya on November 11 and 12, which President Nikos Christodoulides is also due to attend.
Erdogan had aimed not to invite the President of the Republic of Cyprus. However, diplomatic efforts by Nicosia in recent weeks overturned Ankara’s plans and secured an invitation for Christodoulides. Erdogan then sent a letter to Erhurman inviting him to Antalya as well.
Erhurman made the invitation public in a social media post, saying he wanted to clarify the matter because journalist friends had been asking about it. He said he had received the invitation from Erdogan on July 14 for the summit, which will be held in Antalya in November.
“We will be in Antalya on the relevant dates,” he wrote.
He added that, from what he had learned from the press, Christodoulides had also announced that he would be there, as usual.
