Cyprus police arrested 13 people during overnight operations targeting crime and traffic offences, checking 700 vehicles and issuing 281 traffic fines, including 127 for speeding.

According to a police statement, the arrests were made for various suspected offences, including illegal drug possession, burglary and theft, possession of burglary tools, illegal residence in the Republic of Cyprus and drink-driving.

During the operations, officers stopped 700 vehicles and checked 981 people travelling in them.

Police also carried out 97 inspections of premises as part of efforts to tackle unlawful activity, resulting in 13 reported violations.

Traffic checks led to 281 fines for various offences, while 20 additional suspected traffic violations remain under investigation.

Police also impounded 15 vehicles as part of their investigations.

Of the traffic fines issued, 127 were for speeding and 20 for drink-driving. Officers also recorded three suspected drug-driving offences.

Police conducted 186 alcohol tests and four drug-driving tests during the operations.

The force said crime prevention and enforcement operations would continue daily, with an increased police presence, targeted checks and rapid responses aimed at protecting the public and maintaining public order.
