Man serving sentence with electronic tag remanded in Limassol drugs case

A 27-year-old man serving a sentence outside prison under electronic monitoring for a fatal road crash has been arrested in a drugs case in Limassol.

More than one kilogramme of cannabis, as well as cocaine and cannabis resin, were found at a flat where he lives with a 20-year-old woman, with quantities of the drugs discovered in a bag hidden under a bed.

The two suspects appeared before Limassol District Court on Saturday, which granted a request by the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) to remand them for six days while investigations continue.

According to information obtained by philenews, the 27-year-old was convicted over a fatal road crash on New Year’s Day 2023 on the Kolossi road. He is serving his sentence outside prison under electronic monitoring.

The latest case emerged after officers from YKAN and the Crime Prevention Unit obtained a court warrant following the assessment of information and searched the Limassol flat where the two suspects live.

During the search, officers initially found about two grammes of cannabis and a precision scale.

They then found a fabric bag hidden under the bed containing nine packages of cannabis with a total gross weight of 1.137 kilogrammes.

The bag also contained two packages of cocaine with a total gross weight of 50 grammes and one package containing 95 grammes of cannabis resin.

Police also found mobile phones and €2,870 in cash at the flat, which were seized as evidence.

The two suspects were arrested on suspicion of offences relating to illegal possession of drugs, possession with intent to supply and money laundering.

Investigators are expected to take written statements from both suspects, while inquiries are continuing to establish the origin of the drugs and identify their supplier.
