Cyprus police arrest seven in overnight operations, issue 330 traffic fines

Cyprus police arrested seven people during overnight operations targeting crime and public safety, carrying out hundreds of vehicle and premises checks and issuing 330 traffic fines.

According to a police statement, the seven arrests involved various offences, including illegal residence in the Republic of Cyprus, drink-driving, verbal abuse and theft.

Officers stopped and checked 699 drivers and 213 passengers overnight. They also inspected 43 premises as part of efforts to tackle unlawful activity, resulting in six reported violations.

Traffic enforcement operations led to 330 fines for various offences, while 12 additional suspected traffic violations remain under investigation.

Of the fines issued, 85 were for speeding. Police also impounded 12 vehicles as part of their investigations.

Officers carried out 224 alcohol tests, resulting in 10 reported offences. Two preliminary drug-driving tests were also conducted, neither of which returned a positive result.

Police said crime prevention and enforcement operations would continue daily, with an increased police presence, targeted checks and rapid operational responses aimed at protecting the public and maintaining public order.
