A 46-year-old man accused of threatening his two daughters over their make-up, including allegedly saying in a video that he would be forced to take them back as corpses, pleaded not guilty to six charges at Limassol District Court on Wednesday.
According to his 19-year-old daughter, he sent her the video through a mobile phone app in June 2026. In it, he allegedly warned that if he saw the sisters wearing make-up on camera again, “you will see what I will do to you”.
The case followed a complaint by the 19-year-old, who said she could no longer bear the psychological pressure. According to her complaint, her father did not accept the way she and her younger sister lived in Cyprus, and their make-up was allegedly what triggered his threats.
He also allegedly sent her messages through the same app threatening to send both sisters back, according to the charge sheet and her statement to the authorities.
The charges include harassment, threats, causing mental harm, psychological violence and illegally staying in the Republic.
After the complaint, it emerged that he had been staying in Cyprus illegally from July 2023 until September 2026. The Asylum Service had rejected his asylum application in June 2023.
He remains in custody, and the case has been set for a hearing at the end of October.
