Third arrest in Paphos cat shooting as police hold 16-year-old

Police arrested a 16-year-old on Tuesday over the shooting of a cat in Paphos, the third person held in the case and the second arrested that day.

Earlier on Tuesday, police arrested an 18-year-old from Paphos district who they say was at the scene and took part in killing the animal.

The first suspect, also 18, was arrested on Monday on an arrest warrant and has been remanded in custody for four days by Paphos District Court. Police found and seized a number of items of evidence during a search of his home.

Paphos CID is investigating the killing of an animal along with possible offences of conspiracy to commit a misdemeanour and a felony, illegal possession and transport of a firearm and explosives, and firing a gun in a residential area.

The cat’s 56-year-old owner reported finding it dead near his home on Sunday, and a post-mortem the next day found 13 gun pellets in its body. Officers from the Cyprus Animal Police and Paphos Central Police Station went to the scene.
