Aradippou signs deal to build €4.2m second solar park

Aradippou municipality has recently signed a contract for a second solar park, expected to cost 4.2 million euros, as it moves towards becoming Cyprus’s first energy self-sufficient municipality. The 3.61-megawatt park will be built next to the existing one and is due for completion in two years.

The contractor is a joint venture of S. Hadjichristofi Construction Ltd, Inteso Construction Ltd and TQES LLC. The park will be funded from the municipality’s own resources.

Mayor Christodoulos Partou told Phileleftheros the municipality wants the new park to meet the needs of its new buildings: a theatre, the Municipal Library, a large park in the Rizoelia area and a new regional stadium, for which it is awaiting planning permission.

The next step was an energy storage facility so that the solar parks could be fully used, Partou said, adding that the municipality had already begun the process through the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA). Storage would allow it to power all its infrastructure, including its buildings, street lighting and new facilities.

He said the second park was expected to contribute significantly to clean energy production, cut the municipality’s energy footprint and strengthen its energy self-sufficiency, bringing long-term benefits for the local community and for the national target of energy neutrality.

The municipality’s first solar park, with a capacity of 2.96 megawatts, has been operating since 2025. It cost 3.25 million euros plus VAT and was co-funded by the European Union under the THALIA 2021–2027 Cohesion Policy Programme.
