Severe weather possible on Tuesday, warning under consideration

Tuesday is the most likely day this week for widespread severe weather in Cyprus, Department of Meteorology officer Tasos Koulentis said. He added that forecasters would wait for further data before deciding whether to issue a warning.

Rain or a thunderstorm is possible tonight, mainly in coastal areas. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be unstable, with cloud building gradually after midday and some rain and thunderstorms, he said.

Thursday and Friday will be mostly fine, with some cloud in places. Temperatures will rise slightly through Friday but stay a little below normal for the time of year.

Dams at 35.8 per cent

Cyprus’s dams were 35.8 per cent full as of October 2, compared with 12.3 per cent at the same time last year, according to the Water Development Department. They held 103.975 million cubic metres of water, against 35.688 million cubic metres a year earlier.

Kouris held 42.882 million cubic metres (37.3 per cent full), up from 12.925 million (11.2 per cent) a year earlier. Asprokremmos held 18.897 million (36.1 per cent), up from 5.530 million (10.6 per cent). Evretou held 9.344 million (38.9 per cent), up from 3.068 million (12.8 per cent).

Kannaviou held 7.301 million (42.5 per cent), up from 2.268 million (13.2 per cent), and Germasogeia 6.579 million (48.7 per cent), up from 1.020 million (7.6 per cent).
