A driver and two passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries on Tuesday after their refuse lorry hit an Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) pole and overturned in a field in Acheleia, in the Paphos district.
Initial reports had suggested the lorry overturned because of a mechanical fault. A later update from the Fire Service said instead that it hit the pole before rolling over.
Paphos Fire Station sent a team and a rescue vehicle to free those trapped inside, but the driver and the two passengers had already managed to free themselves before firefighters arrived. All three suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Paphos General Hospital for treatment.
EAC also sent a crew to deal with the damaged pole.
The circumstances of the crash are still being investigated.
