A man threw a battery from the AEL stand during Sunday’s APOEL-AEL football match at GSP Stadium in Nicosia, striking a 10-year-old girl in the head as she watched the game with her father, according to witness testimony. Police arrested him after the match ended.

The girl was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where she received first aid before being discharged.

Police also intervened earlier in the day, before kick-off, when a group of APOEL fans marching towards the stadium stopped to throw objects at AEL supporters gathered in the stadium’s north car park. Order was quickly restored.

A second man was arrested when a flare was found in his possession during security checks at the stadium entrance.

After allegedly pushing over part of the stadium’s metal security fencing, two AEL fans were denied entry.

A police anti-riot officer was also injured during the disorder, after AEL fans attacked him. He was taken to Apollonio Hospital, where he received first aid and was discharged.
