Five people aboard three boats caught in rough seas off Cape Greco have been rescued, after two of the vessels sank amid bad weather, philenews has confirmed.
Police said authorities were placed on alert for the boats in the bay between Agioi Anargyroi and Konnos, near Cape Greco, after strong swells hit the area.
One boat broke apart and sank after striking rocks in the rough seas, police said. One person on board was rescued and brought safely to shore.
A second boat also sank, according to information published by Kitas Weather and confirmed by philenews.
The police’s Aerial Unit sent a helicopter to the area to help with the rescue effort.

The first boat to sink was registered as a coastal tourist vessel, while the other two were recreational craft, police said.
The third boat remains at risk, the Fisheries Department told philenews.
Members of the Fisheries Department are due to visit the area tomorrow morning to check for oil pollution, philenews reported.
