University of Cyprus sets fees up to €25,000 for new English-taught degrees launching in 2027

The University of Cyprus will charge up to €25,000 annually for its first four English-taught undergraduate programmes launching in the 2027 academic year, following cabinet approval.

The government approved the programmes last month, marking the university’s first expansion into undergraduate degrees taught entirely in English. The courses include Medicine (MD), a Bachelor in Business Administration in Accounting or Finance, a Bachelor in Business Administration in Marketing, Operations Management or Management, and a Bachelor in Economics, Economic Theory and Econometrics or International and European Economic Studies.

The Medicine degree sits under the Medical School, while the remaining three fall under the Faculty of Economics and Management. University officials said the courses meet modern societal and labor market demands.

Cabinet approval also established mandatory tuition fees and initial intake quotas for international and local applicants.

Annual tuition for Medicine is set at €25,000, while the remaining three programmes in Business Administration and Economics will cost €10,000 per year.

For the 2027–2028 academic year, intake quotas for international entry exams allow up to 30 students for Medicine, with a required minimum of 22 students per year. The Bachelor in Business Administration in Accounting or Finance is capped at 35 students with a minimum of 25. The Bachelor in Business Administration in Marketing, Operations Management or Management and the Bachelor in Economics both carry a 35-student cap, each requiring a minimum of 20 students per year.

Under legislative provisions adopted by the government, candidates who sit the Pan-Cyprian Examinations can apply for up to an additional 20% of places above the international entrance exam quota, provided they pay the required tuition fees.

Applicants holding Pan-Cyprian Examination results will submit applications for evaluation against overall course criteria. University officials expect strong interest from local candidates who might otherwise consider private Cypriot universities or institutions abroad.

University of Cyprus sources said domestic demand will likely drive enrolment during the initial years. The programmes cater to graduates from both public and private schools in Cyprus, alongside qualified international applicants.

While Medicine fees align with local private sector rates, tuition for the business and economics degrees runs slightly higher than equivalent private university programmes in Cyprus. However, official proposal documents submitted to the cabinet state that fees remain competitive and were calculated based on financial sustainability studies to ensure each degree self-funds through tuition revenue.

University of Cyprus Rector Tasos Christofides said the institution is working intensively to prepare for the launch. Christofides confirmed the university will issue an official announcement in September detailing entry criteria, tuition rates, application procedures, and deadlines.
