Binge it or skip it: Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen – A match made in hell

The psychological horror miniseries Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, available on Netflix, is a masterclass in slow-burn dread that will make you question the concept of romantic fate. Across eight episodes, showrunner Haley Z. Boston and executive producers the Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things) offer a haunting experience that feels like waking up inside a nightmare on the threshold of normalcy and chaos.

The story follows Rachel and Nicky, an engaged couple arriving at a remote family estate for their wedding. What begins as a typical family drama quickly turns into a crazy week involving generational curses, taxidermy, and a malevolent presence known as the “Sorry Man.” Camila Morrone delivers the best performance of her career as Rachel, a sharp, empathetic doctoral student whose “Spidey Sense” is triggered by the strange Cunningham family. Opposite her, Adam DiMarco perfectly captures the demeanor of a polite fiancé who perhaps lacks the moral compass Rachel deserves.

Technically, the series is incredible. Director Weronika Tofilska creates a world filled with tension. The production design and an exceptionally effective soundtrack ensure that the atmosphere remains suffocatingly thick. It is a production that shines a blood-spattered light on the anxieties of a wedding, posing the terrifying question: Are you sure he’s the one?

While the gore is visceral, the show’s true power lies in its exploration of being trapped by ritual. It is not for everyone; the intensity is high and the cynicism regarding “soulmates” is biting. However, for those who crave high-caliber horror that challenges the heart as much as the nerves, it is essential viewing.

The Verdict: Binge-worthy. It’s an intelligent, terrifying ride that proves the road to “I do” can lead straight to hell.
