A 30-year-old motorcyclist from Larnaca has died following a head-on collision with a car on the Kellia-Troulloi road. The victim was a father to two children.

Georgios Georgiou was riding a high-powered motorcycle belonging to another person when the crash occurred at around 7:30pm.

Preliminary examinations indicate Georgiou entered a bend and crossed into the oncoming lane, where his motorcycle collided head-on with a saloon car driven by a 28-year-old woman. Her 32-year-old front-seat passenger and two children, aged four and two, in the back seats were also in the car, police said.

Georgiou and the car’s occupants were taken by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The car’s occupants received first aid and were discharged, police said.

Preliminary examinations also found Georgiou was not wearing a protective helmet at the time of the crash.

Police said the car’s driver underwent alcohol and drug tests, both of which returned negative results.

A post-mortem examination was scheduled for 10:30am today to determine the cause of Georgiou’s death. Larnaca Traffic Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
