A child’s bedroom in a two-storey home in Deryneia suffered extensive damage after a fire caused by a mobile phone and its charger, according to the Fire Service.
Fire Service spokesman Andreas Kettis said the call was received at 3.40 am. The child said the phone had been left on the bed while connected to a charger.
After noticing the fire, the child left the room and alerted the parents. Everyone managed to leave the house in time and no one was placed in danger.
The bedroom suffered extensive damage from the fire and heat, while the rest of the floor was also affected.
Two crewed fire engines responded to the scene.
