Gunmen opened fire against a 33-year-old this morning in Ayia Napa, police said.
Sources said the suspects lay in wait for him a few metres from his home, then opened fire as he tried to turn right, hitting his car several times. Assessments suggest the attackers wanted him dead.

The 33-year-old had not previously come to police attention.
Police believe the shooting was aimed at the brother of a man serving a life sentence for the quadruple murder committed in Ayia Napa in June 2016, with one of the scenarios under investigation being that the attackers wanted to send a message to the convicted man. The shooting took place at around 5.40am in the Kokkines area, where the 33-year-old was driving his car. He was not injured, though his car was damaged.
Shortly after the shooting, a car was found burning in an open area in Avgorou. Police are investigating whether it is the vehicle used by the attackers.

Both crime scenes have been cordoned off, with examinations being carried out by Famagusta CID and the Criminal Investigation Service of Police Headquarters. Investigators are focused on locating evidence that could identify the perpetrators. Police will also seek CCTV footage in an effort to trace the attackers’ movements, along with witness statements from local residents.
