Much needed showers across many areas with more to come on long holiday weekend

Weather conditions drastically changed in a number of inland areas and over the mountains following a protracted exchausting heatwave, with locals uploading videos of rain and storms on social media.

Meteorological Service official Panayiotis Mouskos said that most phenomena will be localised but with high intensity at intervals and a possibility of hail in certain regions.

‘Winds will be mild, force four and temperatures near the seasonal average’, Mouskos added.

A low pressure system continues to affect the island, bringing storms mostly in the east and over the mountains and mild winds three to four but five on the eastern coast.

Rain will subside this evening, with temperatures dropping to 23 degrees Celsius inland, 24 over the coast and 20 on the highest reaches of the Troodos mountains.

More showers and storms tomorrow, on the Assumption of the Virgin Mary holiday, with the possibility of hail in some regions, with winds turning strong force five, over calm to slight seas.

Temperatures will rise to 38 degrees Celsius inland, 30 on the west coast, 33 on the rest of the coastal regions and 27 on the mountains.

The rainy pattern will continue through to Tuesday, with local showers and storms, as temperatures drop.
