Police arrested a cleaner at a Paphos hotel on Wednesday night over the theft of two pieces of jewellery worth about 1,000 euros from a guest’s room.
The arrest followed a complaint by the hotel management, which came after a woman staying at the hotel reported the jewellery missing from her room.
The investigation produced indications that the cleaner was involved and that she had obtained an entry card opening every room in the hotel. The room she is suspected of entering did not fall within the area she was assigned to clean.
Questioned by police, the employee is said to have admitted going into the guest’s room and taking the jewellery. Officers arrested her on a court warrant and held her in custody.
She is due to be charged before the Paphos District Court on Thursday and summonsed to appear at a later date.
