They’re operating in gruelling conditions, and lately they’ve had to deal with a wave of back-to-back arson attacks on top of everything else, many of them in wooded, hard-to-reach terrain right across Cyprus.
These are the firefighting crews of the Fire Service and the Forestry Department, who have managed, in this latest spell, to stop dozens of fires spreading further. In some cases, from what we’re able to see, the effort has been superhuman, and the results genuinely striking, thanks to the coordination behind them.
For that, all of us owe a huge round of thanks to the firefighting crews, and to the volunteers who race to every major fire from every corner of Cyprus to help however they can.
