Police arrested and detained two men, aged 51 and 47, on Tuesday midday to help with questioning as part of an investigation into suspected illegal drug possession.

Anti-Drugs Unit (YKAN) officers stopped a car on a road in the Nicosia district as part of ongoing evidence-gathering, driven by the 51-year-old. A search turned up 90 grams of dried plant matter and a half-smoked hand-rolled cigarette containing cannabis. Police arrested the man for a flagrant offence and took him into custody.

Second arrest, knives and cash found at home
In a follow-up operation linked to the same case, YKAN officers stopped a car driven by the 47-year-old on a road in Nicosia. A search of the vehicle turned up three knives with pointed blades. Police arrested the man for a flagrant offence and took him into custody. Officers then searched his home, where they found and seized:
- 2 kilograms and 320 grams of dried cannabis plant matter
- A grinder with cannabis residue
- 10,800 euros in cash
- Various other items taken for further examination

The two men are expected to appear before Nicosia District Court on Wednesday morning for remand proceedings. YKAN’s investigation continues.
