The government today confirmed that Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou will be replaced in the upcoming cabinet reshuffle.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Giannis Antoniou, speaking to Omega TV, confirmed it was “with a great deal of certainty” that the Minister of Agriculture would leave her post, since she has accepted an appointment in public education.

Antoniou said he could not share the President’s other decisions on the reshuffle, adding that he did not know them himself.

Panayiotou’s departure comes after a difficult period for the ministry. A joint parliamentary committee report into the July 2025 wildfires that killed two people in mountainous Limassol and Paphos found she had not adequately fulfilled her duties, citing her avoidance of questions and her failure to meet with the Environment Commissioner despite repeated attempts. Her ministry has also faced repeated protests from livestock farmers over the mass culling of animals linked to a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, including road blockades at the Rizoelia junction.
