A fire caused by the burning of rubbish at an illegal dump broke out at 13:20 on Saturday at a site known as Melissia in the community of Kalo Chorio in the Larnaca district, the Department of Forests said. It was brought under control by 13:50, burning two donums of dry grass and rubbish.
The firefighting operation involved six Department of Forests personnel and five Fire Service personnel, deploying four vehicles between them, supported by two volunteers with a small vehicle.
Department of Forests units are remaining on site to guard against rekindling.
