Athens and Brussels report strong overseas voter turnout as counting begins

Voter turnout reached 76 per cent in Athens and 68 per cent in Thessaloniki for Sunday’s legislative elections, with officials confirming the entire process ran smoothly without any disruptions.

Vote counting is already underway across Greece, and final results for the polling stations set up there are expected by around 20:00 on Sunday evening.

In Brussels, the polling station recorded a 70 per cent turnout, with 407 out of 583 registered voters casting ballots. This was the first time a voting process has been held in Brussels for a Cypriot parliamentary election, as previous overseas voting lines in the Belgian capital were restricted to presidential and European elections. The process concluded smoothly, and officials are sequentially counting votes for each of the six districts—Nicosia, Famagusta, Limassol, Larnaca, Kyrenia, and Paphos—from the single Brussels ballot box.

Meanwhile, turnout in the United Kingdom passed 50 per cent as voting continued without issues. A total of 1,614 voters are registered across two polling stations, each housing two ballot boxes. Polling stations opened at 08:00 local time and are scheduled to close at 16:00 local time, unless an extension is deemed necessary.

The first UK voting site is at the Cyprus High Commission in central London, where 921 voters are registered. The second site is operating at the Cypriot Community Centre in north London, which has 693 registered voters. Once voting finishes, the boxes will be sealed and reopened later for an on-site count before the results are transmitted directly to the Ministry of Interior in Nicosia for public release.
