Cyprus has recorded its best-ever May dam inflows since systematic records began in 1987, with 9.6 million cubic metres (MCM) flowing into reservoirs by May 19, according to official data from the Water Development Department (WDD).
The figure is the highest inflow recorded for any May in the 40 years the WDD has maintained detailed data, with further inflows expected in the coming days.
The May milestone follows two exceptional spring months. In March, inflows reached 35.4 MCM — the largest monthly inflow ever recorded for that month. April maintained the momentum, with 23.6 MCM flowing into dams, making it the second-best April in 38 years of records.
As of May 19, total stored water in the Southern Conveyor dams stood at 71.2 MCM, with overall capacity at 37.6%.
