Cyprus seized more than 3,400 products during its participation in the global PANGEA operation targeting counterfeit pharmaceutical products sold online.
The Republic of Cyprus took part in the operation for the 15th consecutive year. The operation was carried out from March 10 to March 23, 2026, with the participation of 90 INTERPOL member countries.
The operation aimed to identify and seize counterfeit pharmaceutical products traded through the internet.
On behalf of the Police, the Intellectual Property Theft and Illegal Betting Offences Branch of the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate took part and was responsible for coordinating and carrying out the operation in Cyprus. The Drug Law Enforcement Unit also participated.
PANGEA is organised by INTERPOL in cooperation with Europol, the World Customs Organization, the World Health Organization and other bodies.
Globally, authorities carried out 158 searches and seized unauthorised and counterfeit pharmaceutical products with an estimated total value of more than $15.5 million.
Authorities also identified and removed 5,700 illegal websites, links and channels, arrested 269 suspects and dismantled 66 criminal organisations.
In Cyprus, the operation was carried out by the police with the participation of the Pharmaceutical Services, Customs Department, Postal Services, Health Services, Veterinary Services, the Competent Authority for Medical Devices, the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry and the State General Laboratory.
Twelve joint coordinated operations were carried out at various premises, along with checks at several entry points into the Republic of Cyprus.
More than 3,400 products falling under various prohibitions and restrictions under national legislation were seized. They included pharmaceutical preparations, narcotic substances, food supplements and tobacco products.
