A man was left clinging to the bonnet of a moving car on a motorway after the driver allegedly tried to flee following a traffic collision, according to RoadReportCY.

The incident happened at around 12.40 pm last Wednesday, when a rental car hit the rear of another vehicle, the same source said.

After the collision, two people got out of the vehicle to speak to the driver. According to RoadReportCY, the driver allegedly refused to cooperate, repeating: “I cannot wait, I have to leave.”

The victim allegedly spotted a police patrol car about 80 metres away in the emergency lane and tried to ask for help. When the suspect realised police were approaching, he allegedly accelerated suddenly.

At that moment, the victim was standing in front of the car and was dragged when the vehicle moved forward, ending up on the bonnet.

The driver continued at high speed as the victim held on to the vehicle and police began a pursuit.

The man managed to hold on for almost two kilometres, until the vehicle slowed to 30 to 40 kilometres per hour near the Kalo Chorio roundabout.

The victim was later taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where he remained in the emergency department for six hours.

He suffered multiple abrasions to his hands, legs, chest and back, as well as bruising and pain in his ribs.
