The city’s Criminal Court handed down the 7 year sentence on the 51 year old following charges of rape, sexual harassment, assault and grievous bodily harm.

The offences took place, according to the facts of the case, at a small Paphos hotel in February 2025.

As Philenews reports, what weighed heavily on the decision of the Court to hand down a more severe sentence was the fact that he initially denied the charges, forcing the victim to recount the horrifying events during initial hearings.

The convicted man was still married with the victim during the incident but had been estranged for some time.

Their two children lived with their father in a Paphos hotel room. The mother lived at different lodgings in the city.

As was heard in court, on February 2nd 2025, following an arrangement between the couple, the wife visited the husband at the hotel and subsequently-five days later-decided to move to the same establishment, so she could be closer to their children.

On the next day, the husband begun accusing his estranged wife of having sexual relations with other men, following which they spend the afternoon together, having beer and whiskey in her hotel room.

After some time he started verbally abusing her and then pushed her down on the bed and raped her, while she kept crying and screaming, calling him ‘a rapist that she will never love’.

Her words enraged the accused wh hit hear over the head repeatedly, but quickly stopped when she started screaming.

The victim reported the incident to hotel management, who called police to the scene.

A panel of three judges ruled that the man’s actions were premeditated as he felt angry about his estranged partner having sexual relations with other men, as he believed.

They referred to a dysfunctional relationship that had gone badly wrong.

The Court further noted the fact that the accused had shown no remorse, as he initially denied any wrongdoing, forcing the woman to relive the trauma of her rape.

As such, it could not exercise its discretion for leniency.
