The Civil Defence is rolling out a series of fire-season preparedness measures, including evacuation drills across all districts in May and the completion of an updated emergency response plan.

Evacuation drills

Evacuation drills are scheduled in communities across all districts during May, the Civil Defence said. The exercises aim to improve operational coordination between the relevant services, strengthen cooperation with local authorities and familiarise residents with evacuation procedures.

The Force said public participation is essential to effective emergency response and the protection of lives, property and the natural environment.

Polyvios plan update

In the preceding months, the Civil Defence visited communities across Cyprus to revise the “Polyvios” emergency plan in cooperation with Community Councils.

Each community’s specific characteristics were taken into account and procedures were set according to needs identified by Community Council representatives. Revisions were completed across all communities by mid-April.

The drills and the plan revisions are intended to ensure local authorities are as well-prepared as possible to respond to fire incidents during the fire season, and to coordinate effectively with state services, the Force said.
