Cyprus’s Meteorological Service has issued a yellow warning for isolated severe thunderstorms, in effect from 6am to 6pm on Saturday.
The storms are expected to move across the island from west to east throughout the day, bringing hail and strong, gusty winds. Rainfall intensity could locally exceed 35 millimetres per hour.
A low-pressure system is affecting the region. Dust will be suspended in the atmosphere through Sunday, with concentrations expected to be elevated at times.
Saturday will be mainly cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms. Winds will be mainly south-westerly to north-westerly, weak to moderate at force three to four and locally up to force five. Seas will gradually become moderate to rough. Temperatures will reach around 21 degrees Celsius on the coast and inland, and 12 degrees in the higher mountains.
On Sunday, cloudy conditions will continue with isolated showers mainly along the coast in the morning. From midday onwards, local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected, mainly in the mountains and the eastern half of the island, with hail possible during storms.
On Monday, locally increased cloud cover around midday may bring isolated showers or a thunderstorm, mainly in the mountains. Tuesday will be mainly clear, with some passing cloud in the afternoon.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Tuesday, remaining slightly below seasonal averages.
