US President Donald Trump told Fox News on Monday that he might consider engaging in talks with Iran, but that any discussions would depend on the terms set by both sides.

Asked about the possibility of negotiations with Tehran during an interview that evening, Trump noted that he had been informed that the Iranian side was eager for dialogue.

However, the Republican president reiterated his dissatisfaction with Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, telling Fox News, “I don’t believe he can live peacefully.”

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif made it clear earlier that Tehran was not currently considering negotiations with Washington.

“We have a very bitter experience with talks with the Americans,” Zarif said, highlighting that both US attacks on Iran, one in June and the most recent, followed unsuccessful negotiations between the two nations. “Talks are no longer on our agenda,” he asserted.
