The Assembly of Experts has officially appointed the individual who will serve as Iran’s new Supreme Leader, succeeding Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 during U.S.-Israeli strikes.

While members of the Assembly confirmed the appointment on Sunday, they have notably declined to name the specific person chosen for the role.

“The Most Suitable Candidate”

According to the Isna news agency, the announcement was confirmed by Mohsen Heydari, the representative for Khuzestan province within the Assembly.

“The most suitable candidate, approved by the majority of the Assembly of Experts, has been appointed,” Heydari stated, confirming that the internal selection process has concluded.
