Something’s really wrong with the turtle case

They were kicking a turtle, hurling it about like a bag of rubbish, and the Police charged them with causing a nuisance. We’re no experts in animal policing, but what’s a nuisance got to do with abusing a defenceless creature?

The explanation we’ve been given is that the post-mortem on the turtle showed it was already dead when the perpetrators were beating it savagely. That’s why it doesn’t constitute abuse when the animal’s already dead.

Something’s really wrong with our legislation. If you grab a dead person and drag them behind a car, isn’t that desecration? Here, they kicked the poor creature around like a football, but according to the law, this counts as causing a nuisance. A nuisance to whom—the dead animal? Give us a break.
