The partner of DISY MP Nikos Sykas has withdrawn her assault complaint against him, but prosecutors are pressing ahead with the case regardless, philenews has disclosed.
The woman sent a letter to Limassol Police Directorate withdrawing the complaint she filed on 4 January, which alleged assault during the couple’s New Year holiday in Athens. The letter explains her reasons for the decision.
Her lawyer had previously informed investigative authorities verbally of her intention to withdraw, before subsequently sending the formal letter to police.
The development came as the Legal Service was preparing its request to the Supreme Court to waive Sykas’s parliamentary immunity. Police had been instructed to take additional statements to corroborate the woman’s account, philenews reported.
Officers took statements from people in Cyprus whom the woman had informed about the incident, and submitted a request to Greek authorities to take statements from witnesses there. These included a doctor who examined the MP’s partner in Athens and a taxi driver who transported her to a clinic.
Despite the complainant’s change of stance, the Legal Service has proceeded with its request to the Supreme Court for an immunity waiver. Authorities are certain to complete investigations regardless of her decision. If evidence is deemed sufficient, the case will proceed with a court filing and the complainant will be called to testify. If she refuses, a decision will be made at that stage.
The Law Office said in a post that an application for immunity waiver was filed before the Supreme Court today, with a hearing scheduled for 13 January 2026 at 11:00.
