Intense rainfall is affecting Cyprus, causing serious problems on the road network and properties. According to Fire Service Spokesman Andreas Kettis, ten calls have been recorded, mainly concerning flooded roads and premises.
Traffic Warnings and Low Visibility
Due to heavy rainfall on the Nicosia – Limassol motorway, particularly near the areas of Zygi, Kornos, and Governor’s Beach, visibility is extremely limited.
Police urge drivers to be especially careful, drive at low speeds, and maintain safe distances from preceding vehicles.
Problems in Polis Chrysochous
The Polis Chrysochous Fire Station has proceeded with a partial recall of personnel to handle emergency situations. Meanwhile, the area’s Municipality has undertaken the cleaning of road surfaces and the opening of storm drain manholes.
The road from Polis Chrysochous to Latsi has been closed due to water accumulation.
The road from Polis Chrysochous – Argaka – Ayia Marina – Chrysochous has become dangerous.
Authorities call on drivers to be extremely cautious and adhere to basic safety guidelines, such as driving at low speeds and keeping safe distances.
Furthermore, due to the severe weather phenomena prevailing across Cyprus, which are particularly affecting the Paphos road network and the Nicosia – Limassol motorway, drivers are urged to drive carefully and keep their running lights on.
