The Fisheries Department is investigating after a bather found a dead turtle on Timi beach.
Fisheries Department director Marina Argyrou said she cannot determine the cause of death for the small turtle, including whether fishing nets were involved.

Common causes of turtle deaths include getting trapped in fishing gear, being struck by passing vessels, or natural causes, according to Argyrou.
She added that the standard procedure in such cases involves informing the local authority for managing the dead animal, noting that this incident is under investigation.
The bather who discovered the turtle on Saturday afternoon reported that fishermen’s nets had been placed on Timi beach, whilst orange buoys that are positioned in the sea to prevent boats and vessels from passing beyond them have been removed due to the autumn season.
