The briefing of the Parliament by the Minister of Justice and the Chief of Police on organised crime lasted over an hour and was held behind closed doors.
The discussion was held without the presence of the MPs’ associates due to the sensitive nature of the topic, and according to information obtained by philenews, questions were submitted after the MPs received the briefing.
According to the same information, the briefing given by the political head of the Police concerned the state of organised crime as it has developed after the murder of Stavros Demosthenous, where it is expanding its activities, and fears about how it is evolving.
It is estimated that Marios Hartsiotis informed the MPs about the measures being taken by the law enforcement authorities regarding the suppression of organised crime, the increase in patrols in city centres, as well as other measures to control individuals who raise suspicions of illicit enrichment.
Hartsiotis also provided an update, according to the same information, on the situation with the prisons, the measures being taken, and those being implemented, such as the mobile phone deactivation system which is expected to be installed in early 2026, as well as the new cameras that will be installed in the wings.
After the briefing, the Minister and the Chief of Police answered a multitude of questions from the MPs.
